Having trouble with unreasonable clients? Manage them with contracts.

During your career, you will run across at least one client who is trouble. The best thing you can do is put yourself in a position where you can turn down clients who have unrealistic expectations. Barring this, protect yourself as best you can with an ironclad contract.
Initial Meeting
Before asking a client to sign a contract, meet with them in person or on Skype. You want to see your client face-to-face so you can judge their reactions to your fee, the payment terms and the scope of the work.
Client Responsibilities
Make sure your contract spells out the client’s responsibilities and your own. For example, there has to be a time limit for approving the wireframe. Insist that you deal directly with the person that hired you; they are responsible for getting approval from their boss in a timely manner.
Revisions
You will see web development companies offering unlimited revisions, however, this is asking for trouble. Limit the number of revisions or you could end up changing the background color 10 times, trying to find the right shade of blue for a client.
Host the Website
Host the client's website until the final check clears. If they don't pay, you can take the site down if you control the hosting. If you don't want to host the site, insist the client find their own host within 30 days after the transaction is complete.
Security
Make sure you use the latest content management system and plug-ins. As part of their contract, insist that they install all future updates. There are clients who will blame you if they get hacked after a year of not installing security updates.
Finally, spell out everything in the contract. Include the number of pages the site will have, whether you supply any content and which features are included, such as live chat or a search box.
