Responsive online forms make a user's life easier by displaying correctly on computers, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Your customers expect to login, request a quote or submit an order from anywhere, on any device. Anything less results in a poor customer experience.
White Space
Simplicity is the key to creating a responsive form. Leave lots of white space and forget and any design features that don't add to the form's function. Avoiding unnecessary clutter allows for a larger font and larger buttons to tap on a touchscreen device. Buttons should have at least 8 pixels of space between them, so a user does not inadvertently tap the wrong button. Frustrate your users too much and they will forget your form and use your competitor's instead.
Scrolling
People expect to scroll down, not across. Make sure your responsive form will scroll vertically. Eliminate any unnecessary fields to ensure the user does not have to scroll too much. This is a good practice for any form as people don't like to do too much work to get what they want.
Fields
The fewer fields you have users fill out, the more conversions you'll see. Ask yourself if you absolutely need the information in a field or you just want to collect it. More conversions are better than gathering less information.
Validation
Let customers know if an input field isn't correct at the time they put in the information, not after they have filled out an entire form. If they are choosing a username, tell them right away if it isn't enough characters. Don't make users go back and look for errors.
