Jon Moore, who is a product designer that has created more than 10,000 user interfaces, has come up with a list of the following design tips:
The Importance of Prioritizing Designs
Moore says that designers should make sure their designs fulfill key business requirements first. Once this is accomplished then they can focus on more aesthetic elements.
Stop Wasting Time on Animations
Moore points out that some of the top websites in the world use no UI animation. This includes Facebook and Salesfore and Medium. Animation, he says, can be cute, but no one really cares about it. Instead, designers should focus on better user experiences.
Reuse What Works
Moore insists that designers should not reinvent something that already works, especially when users are expecting to see certain processes handled in certain ways.
Use Design Templates
Moore says that designers waste lots of time by designing UIs from scratch. Instead, he says that designers should build a set of templates that can be used over and over again.
Efficiency Comes from Consistency
Moore notes that if designers want to become more efficient in creating designs, they need first to be more consistent in how they design. He says if designers use consistent UI elements, they will end up having to do less work.
Aesthetics Come Second to Value
Moore uses Craiglist as an example of a site that provides value over attractiveness. The site, he says, might be ugly, but it is popular anyway because it provides incredible value to its users.
Designers Are Not the Only Ones Involved in the Design Process
Moore points out that designers are not the most important people in the design process. The most important people, he says, are those who will be using the designs.
Don't Forget To Tell a Story
Moore says that a UI has to be more than beautiful. It has to tell a story.
Make It
Moore points out the a good design means nothing if it does not get built. For more information click here https://medium.com/ux-power-tools/heres-everything-i-ve-learned-from-designing-10-000-ui-screens-as-a-lead-product-designer-7d2810bee810.
