Dark UX Patterns Deceive Users Into Clicking Through More Than They Realize

Dark UX patterns, which trick website users into taking an action, are more prevalent than people want to believe. We like using social media, playing free games and shopping online, so we don't want to imagine a developer in some back room is creating deliberately confusing user interfaces. It's usually not developers planning these tricks; it is the client.
Major brands with dark UX patterns generally operate within the law. Few people bother to read the long terms of service with confusing terms and tiny fonts. Checking the agree box with the terms is much easier than spending an hour reading the pages. Managers at larger companies have quotas to meet, such as increasing the email sign up rate by 25 percent. It's easier to get a designer to include a pre-checked box, in small print, than it is to increase the rate by offering a free e-book when an individual opts-in.
Subscription websites, which send items monthly unless a person opts out, have come under fire lately. A large advertisement will show clothing, food or cosmetics at a deeply discounted price, with fine print that says the person will become a VIP member and receive products every month unless they cancel the service. Canceling usually involves remaining on hold for an hour, waiting for a customer service rep because the only way to cancel is to call during normal business hours.
Pressure from users forced Facebook to prohibit dark UX patterns in games. Developers can’t use pre-selected check boxes that send invites to all the players friends anymore.
Some companies with dark UX patterns are some well known for their deceptive practices that people joke about them in forums. One major domain name seller has an extremely long checkout that involves unchecked boxes for a variety of add-on services. Consumers can get a cheap domain name if they will go through the lengthy process.  For more information click here https://www.reddit.com/r/web_design/comments/a6fkhq/community_sites/.
