Animated Effects Make a Website Fun But Not As Accessible

A website designer showed an example of a website that has a lot of animated effects. Those animations include cartoon figures as well as masks that slide. The site also has boxes of text that slide from left to right. When the user scrolls down, the site automatically loads more content. This designer wanted to now what effect they could use to reproduce as code in the image mask slide when starting from the side of the website.

One website coder suggested a before and after attribute. The before would be the time before the user gets to the attribute, and the after would be once the person has scrolled to that feature on the page. The animation would only go into effect at that transition. Another person suggested animating the width of the mask slide. A few people questioned how this would be effective.

Several people suggested making updates to the background color for the area that would be covered by the mask slide. Other designers wondered about the color attribute and how that would change the appearance of the site as the user scrolls. A few people mentioned that color is one of the easiest properties to animate or transform when coding a website.

Several people liked the site as it is. They wanted to see it live on its actual place, but the website designer said that this was just a demo and that their actual site is not yet finished. A few people realized that the animated site in question was for an Australian childcare service. Those who navigated to the site that they thought was the source discovered that the actual live site does not look anything like the animated one demoed by the original poster.

The fact that this is a beta or demo site goes to show that animated effects can make a huge difference in the perception of a website. A few people noted that all of the animated effects could lead to accessibility issues for some users. For example, a screen reader may not be able to keep up with animations.
