A Hobbyist Designer Shares Their First Piece of Finished Work

A person just finished creating their first web page as a hobbyist activity. It is called battlestationer.com. It features tips on how to plan a gaming or battle station layout for 3D gaming. The site includes tips on what to buy and how to set it up for the ultimate 3D gaming experience. There are animated graphics, flat images and a configuration generator on the site. The upper right corner has a home button and an about button. There are three sections, including the "configurator."

This individual wanted some other designers to go to the site and take a look. The coder is hoping to get some constructive feedback on what they did well and what they could improve. The person is also hoping that people who use different operating systems and devices can tell them if there are any problems with any of the site's features or functions.

One person had a few things to suggest from a user experience perspective. They said the boxes on the home page move with only a little scroll, which is disorienting. They suggested allowing the boxes to fall into place and stay there until the user scrolls out of the range. This person also suggested making the header standard. They noticed that it changes between the home page, how page and about or contact us page.

This person went on to say that the "how" header needs margin before the first bit of text. The white text on a light gray background was difficult for them to read. On the home page, the word "Battlestationer" is written in all capital letters, which does not match the style on the other pages. This person recommended that the designer make the logo transparent. The black background only worked for them on the home page. Finally, this individual also suggested that the original designer create a more cohesive color scheme.
