Slider, Juxtapose, or Swipe View - What Do You Call This?
A person had a question to ask a large online design community. They wanted to know what the name of an interaction is when a person swipes right on a picture and reveals an image that was underneath the first image. Many community members replied.
One said it is called a comparison slider, and many agreed with this. A few people had silly names they made up, such as a "rootin' tootin' picture slidin'" or a "rootin’ tootin’ picture scootin’" device. Someone else said they have always called it a wiper. A different person called it a swiper. One other person joked that they call it a 2020.
One person told the original poster that if they want a fast online version of it to imbed, they have been using Juxtapose for a few years. The original poster replied and said they have been using a plugin to do it, but now they plan to delete the plugin and use that tool instead. The original poster was thankful for the help.
The original poster got a few other answers A person said they call it a before and after slider. A person said there is no consistent name for this function, but at its basic level, it is a slider. An individual disagreed and said that "slider" is ambiguous, and other inputs are also called sliders. One person said they call it a slide-by-slide, but they admitted they might be the only one who does that. Someone replied to them, said it was charming and said they would join them in calling it that.
A couple of people had other ideas. One said it is a non-Euclidean picture book. Someone said it is a juxtapose. An individual called it a swipe view. Yet another person had an idea and called it a reveal slider. Someone called it a scrubber, and someone else said it is called a before/after image comparison. Another person said they call it an image reveal or image swipe. One person wanted to know where the original poster got the screen shot from for the example.
